Return to top Will my insurance cover LASIK surgery? LASIK is an elective procedure, which means that the surgery is optional. As a result, only a few insurance companies pay for all or part of vision correction procedures - you can check with your plan administrator, or we will be happy to make a copy of your insurance card and check coverage for you. In some cases, the fees can be covered by medical flex/cafeteria plans that allow pretax dollars to be set aside - please ask your employer if they offer this type of benefit. Vision correction also may be tax deductible as a medical expense (check with your financial advisor).

5. What about my dental insurance? Will it cover this?
From a ton of research, and constant surveying of dentists, most
dental insurances have a maximum benefit of anywhere from $800 to
$2,300 dollars. This can obviously, usually cover some of your expenses.
However, most of the cosmetic dentistry is considered not mandatory,
and therefore not covered by insurance. The basic fact is, the insurance
companies, as we all know, want to take care of you at the lowest
cost possible, not really the best service or option available for
you.

Other plans may cover the cost of an external prosthesis, or reconstructive surgery, but not both. As of January 1998, 25 states had different laws regarding required Insurance coverage for post mastectomy reconstruction.
Implants may pose additional Insurance concerns. Some companies will withdraw coverage for women with implants, or add a disclaimer for future implant-related problems. Careful reading of Insurance policies,

Some insurance companies require a minimum volume of tissue to be removed to cover the procedure. This should be pre-determined by your plastic surgeon and a letter of pre-determination sent to your insurance carrier along with photographs of your condition to demonstrate the necessity for surgery. Various techniques are available to alleviate your condition which should be discussed at length with your plastic surgeon. If you have maxed out your job's dental benefits or don't have any coverage at all, a discount dental plan may be the best way for you to go. Reduced-fee plans such as Aetna Dental Access, GE Wellness and Uni-Care 200 are not insurance. There are no premiums, deductibles or copays.
